Counseling Approach

Counseling means many things to many people. My basic approach to counseling is one of offering hope; hope that things can be different; that situations can change for the better. Part of providing HOPE is through Helping Others Process Experiences; that is, helping women work through specific issues and life challenges with which they are faced. Part of encouraging change is through cognitive restructuring, or changing the way individuals look at life and the circumstances in which they find themselves. As a Christian counselor, my goal is to help women begin to look at life with, what I call, a Perspective Made Above (PMA). In other words, seeing how God can bring good out of the various challenges they face in life. I am also solution-focused; I encourage women to make goals for change and help them take steps towards accomplishing those goals.
